The school was established in 1961 and it has been training specialists for trade and catering industries. Since 1995 the school started training specialists for hotel and tourism industries. After forming close relationship with the Council of Austria Land Salzburg schools, in 1994 the school obtained the name of Klaipeda Tourism School. Following the recommendations of the specialists from Austria, analyzing their experience and applying it to the school situation in Lithuania, new educational programs were implemented in our school.
Since 1998 the school has been successfully participating in European Leonardo da Vinci projects. Participation in the projects and support from Austria specialists created the opportunities for the reorganization of our school and rapid improvement of training quality.
Our school has modern facilities for both theoretical and practical training. Students have their practical training in our school canteen, bar, bakery, hotel and shop as well as apprenticeship in shops, catering companies, bakeries, hotels and travel agencies in our town.
Classrooms for theoretical training are fully equipped with modern ICT facilities. For further information see Practical training facilities.
The school has accredited the program of secondary education and has founded a gymnasium department from 12 December 2007. At the moment there are 40 speciality teachers and 24 academic education teachers in our school. About 20 % of them are our school alumni who completed university studies afterwards.
The school is headed by principal Audrius Kurlavicius.
VISION
The school considers rapid social and technological changes, aims to develop new educational programmes and reorganize training facilities to ensure modern vocational training for students. Therefore, participating in the projects of European Union structural funds, the school intends to establish hotel and restaurant practical training centre. The establishment of this centre will enable us to bridge the gap between technologies used in industry and the practical training facilities of our school. Modular training will be implemented.
